We LOVE our Volunteers!
Friday, May 17th at 8:45am
Please join us at our last PTA meeting of the year as we thank all of our amazing volunteers! We had so many fabulous events this year and none of it would have been possible without our committee chairs and their committees, class parents and YOU! We will also be turning our attention to next year so if you are new to the school or looking for more ways to get involved, this will be your chance to hear about all of the exciting volunteer opportunities! Also at the meeting, we will be voting on the Greenacres school budget for the 2024-25 school year.
Pastries and coffee will be served. We hope to see you there!
**Please fill out the Greenacres Visitors Form before the meeting.

The Greenacres PTA Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) committee is excited to announce a spring Book Club event!
Part of our district's mission is for each student "to understand themselves and others within the broad fabric of human experience and the natural universe." In an effort to support our children, schools, and community, let's come together for a night of adult learning, exploration, discussion, and growth.
The selected book is Minor Feelings by Cathy Park Hong. The book is a NY Times bestseller and Pulitzer Prize finalist. Hong weaves personal stories as an Asian American woman into larger cultural commentary and historical accounts. Newsweek says she "uses her own experiences as a jumping off point to examine race and emotion in the United States."
You can purchase the book locally at Bronx River Books in Scarsdale and you will receive a 10% discount if you mention the Greenacres Book Club or from their website (discount already included in the price). The book can also be found on Bookshop or Amazon.
You can also listen to Cathy Park Hong share reflections on her book on podcasts by clicking here and here. You do NOT have to read the whole book to participate! Read it all! Read a little! Or just listen! Then come join us on Tuesday, June 4th from 7:00-8:30 pm for a book club discussion!
RSVP to Casey Hogan by May 13th if you would like to participate. Email Casey Hogan if you are interested in joining and/or have questions about the event.

The Greenacres Language Library site is LIVE!
Thank you to all the parents who contributed to our collection so far! Our library currently features students speaking 11 different languages, including multiple Chinese dialects. We will be using the recordings in our classrooms, featuring them in a display at school and sharing them with our community on the Greenacres district website.
Please check it out and consider making a submission! Your child does not need to be fluent in the language to contribute!
Instructions and a script for making recordings can be found here.
Please email Liza King if you would like assistance with the recordings or have any other questions.

Cinco de Mayo
May 5th The Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “Fifth of May”) holiday is celebrated in parts of Mexico and the United States in honor of a Mexican military victory in 1862 over the French forces of Napoleon III.
The day is celebrated in the state of Puebla, Mexico with parades, speeches, and reenactments of the 1862 battle.
In the mid-20th-century United States, the celebration of Cinco de Mayo became popular among Mexican immigrants as a way of encouraging pride in their Mexican heritage.

SMS Voices takes place on Wednesday, May 15th. Check-in for the event begins at 4:15 pm in The Great Hall with an opening meeting to follow and student presentations set to begin at 4:45pm.
